A friend commented, “You can really dream big dreams.”
Well, I am not day-dreaming, I am simply putting up and visualising what I would want to achieve or do in the future. Dreaming dreams and visioning visions for the future are akin to aiming a target at a shooting range. Before you can take down a target in the shooting range, you have to first “look far”…..aiming at the target. Without which your shots will not lands on anything….or simply put, hitting the air. However, simply aiming at the target does not guarantees that you will hit the target. You have to control your breathing, stabilise yourself during the moment you pull your trigger and also ensure that you do not “snap” your trigger. All these like what we say in the military for our shooting practices are known as the “fundamentals”.
Journeying in life, is just like in the shooting range or in SAF, we call it ATP (Advance Trainfire Practice). First, we need to have a target, or in life we call it dreams or visions or purposes. Without it, our lives will simply be “chasing the wind” or “striving after wind” (Eccl 2). However, having dreams is not enough, it will not ensure us gettting to our dreams. Next, we need to build on our fundamentals ….. our character, our values and our perserverence. Furthermore, we also need to be willing to align ourselves towards this dream or direction we have set before us. I say willing here, because many a times, we lose our will to fulfill our dreams.
The bible says “When there is no vision, the people are unrestrained” (Prov 29:18, NASB) or in another translation it says “Where there is no vision, the people perish” (Prov 29:18, KJV). Isn’t this true? Have you wonder why life is without purpose or that you are just going through life in motion following what every others are doing?
Be daring to dream, but in the midst of it, build on your fundamentals on things that will last…..your character and your values. These will be the cornerstones that build the foundation of your dreams and vision.
Well, maybe it is time to dream again……
“while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal” 2 Cor 4:18 (NSAB)
“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Cor 4:18 (NIV)
